Attending PACC 2017

PACC 2017The Dutch PACC contest is of course a bit special for us Dutch hams. PACC 2017 is no exception. In the PACC contest for once in a contest season it’s all about the Dutch hams. This one contest we can run CQ and actually get pile-ups instead of search & pounce for whole contests.
For this year’s (the weekend of 11 and 12 February) participation my radio buddies Rob PA1RAB and Gerald PA9G and I came up with a new plan. Gerald offered to use his family cottage for the PACC-weekend.

Standby problems with the TM-D710

Standby problems with the TM-D710This morning it occurred to me my car almost didn’t start. The battery seemed almost dead. It couldn’t be the battery itself since it is about a year old. When I was thinking about it, I did noticed a low voltage in my battery before. It had to be standby problems with some device in the car. Today I pulled one of the battery leads and put an ampere meter in between.

Aeronautical mobile as PA1JIM/AM

PA1JIM/AMHow cool is it for a ham to temporarily change your call to aeronautical mobile (PA1JIM/AM) during a once in your lifetime experience? Even more so when you can do that from an airliner at 38000 feet up in the air? The other day my good buddy and associate at Pepper IT-solutions VliegPiet made me an offer I could not refuse: to join him as captain in the cockpit of a Boeing 737 on a return flight from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport to Sevilla, Spain.

New item in the shack, a birthday present: RaspberryPi-3

My latest acquisition to the shack is a RaspberryPi-3. A great birthday gift to get! I already owned two RaspberryPi-1’s and one RaspberryPi-2. One of the RaspberryPi-1’s is doing a great job to put out the telemetry of my weather station with Xastir. I wanted the RaspberryPi-3 put to work as a WSPR-decoder as extension on my latest project: the 30m WSPR-RX. Still working on tweaks for the RX though.
