The YouTube algorithm hit me with a really nice video! I am looking for a good documentary about the HAM-hobby for years now.
My own documentary
People who know me, know that I wanted to make my own documentary about HAM for a long time. But I never really knew how to cram so many aspects of the hobby into say 15 or 20 minutes of video without making it hysterical.
I must say the makers of this documentary did succeed! It touches only a view important aspects of the hobby. Also not unimportant: did it in a real classy style which I like and respect very much. Unfortunately, in the Dutch media, HAM amateurs are usually portrayed as contact-impaired idiots who do strange things with microphones and antennas.
HAM Documentary
HAM is a short documentary that follows a group of Montanan amateur radio enthusiasts. These HAM amateurs show the loyal community of amateur radio. They explore what it means to be a ham, and how they are trying to keep the hobby alive.
Comment of the makers: ‘thank you to everyone who made this documentary happen, to all of our peers at UM, to the awesome people who let us into their lives, and to everyone who cheered us on the whole way. Special thanks to the School of Visual and Media Arts at the University of Montana and Montana PBS.’
Produced by students from the School of Visual and Media Arts program at the University of Montana in 2022. Aired on Montana PBS on November 24th, 2022.
